Before you start a health and beauty business

Do you need to register?

All health and beauty businesses in Casey must be registered with Council.

This includes businesses offering services such as:

  • hairdressing
  • tattooing
  • ear piercing
  • hair removal (e.g. by waxing)
  • manicures/pedicures
  • colonic irrigation

You may need a building or planning permit

Some health and beauty businesses may also require a building and/or planning permit before they can legally operate.

You may need a building or planning permit for a variety of things such as:

  • building a brand new health or beauty premises
  • changing an existing building into a health or beauty premises
  • running a health or beauty business from your home

Health and beauty businesses must ensure their procedures are conducted in a safe and hygienic manner.

The Department of Health website provides useful infection prevention and control information  specific to the body art and tattooing industry, hairdressing and beauty therapy. This information helps businesses comply with the Public Health and Wellbeing Act and Regulations.
