Applications for Permit to Burn are now closed.
Fire Danger Period commences Monday 17 November.
A permit to burn is primarily for larger properties and farmland that wish to have a controlled burn-off to remove tree cuttings, harvest stubble, and vegetation. Controlled burn-offs help minimise the risk of a larger, uncontrolled wildfire by reducing fuel buildup during high fire danger periods.
The City of Casey DOES NOT issue permits to residents in built-up residential areas. Instead, you can arrange a hard waste collection or visit a local recycle and transfer station (rubbish tip).
Penalties for burning without a permit
A person who breaches the Local Law by lighting a fire in open air without a permit can face penalties. A $593 on-the-spot infringement can be issued, as can greater penalties and possible jail time for breaching the Country Fire Authority Act 1958.
When can you use your burn permit?
Fire Danger Period – City of Casey
The Country Fire Authority (CFA) has announced that the Fire Danger Period for the City of Casey begins on 17 November 2025.
Important Information
From Monday, 17 November 2025, any permit to burn already issued by the City of Casey will no longer be valid:
- Burning off is prohibited during the Fire Danger Period.
- If you wish to burn on your property during this period, you must apply for a fire permit through the CFA via Fire Permits Victoria (FPV).
- Coal and solid-fuel barbecues, including spits, are prohibited during a Total Fire Ban. Gas-powered barbecues are allowed.
The CFA sets the Fire Danger Period dates each year based on weather and environmental conditions. Once the period ends, applications for permits to burn will reopen, usually around the end of April.
- To report illegal burning or if you have concerns, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
- For detailed safety information, visit the CFA website.
