Direct Transport program

About

Support Older People to Stay Connected and Independent.

We're looking for caring, reliable volunteers to provide door-to-door transport for older residents in the City of Casey. By driving them to health appointments and community activities, you’ll play a vital role in supporting their independence, wellbeing, and social connection.

What You will do

Drive eligible Commonwealth Home Support Program residents in Casey to and from medical and other essential appointments as well as community programs using your own car and provide a safe, friendly, and comfortable travel experience

Provide informal wellbeing monitoring and report any concerns about a client’s wellbeing to the Accessible Transport Team.

You will get the chance to interact with clients from a variety of cultural backgrounds and with diverse access needs while making meaningful connections and making a real difference.

Program details

Time Commitment

  • The program especially needs volunteers on Tuesdays (8am–5pm) this is the busiest day
  • Other weekday availability is also welcome
  • Appointments typically last 1 to 3 hours.

Travel locations

  • Within the City of Casey
  • Local health hubs: Monash Dandenong, Clayton, Moorabbin
  • Specialist appointments in various suburbs across Melbourne.

Volunteer Requirements

  • 25+ years of age and  hold a current, valid full, unrestricted Victorian driver’s licence (no probationary plates)
  • Own a registered, roadworthy vehicle with comprehensive insurance
  • Reliable, communicative, and have a calm, friendly manner.
  • Committed to safety and respectful engagement with clients.
  • Willing to complete a National Police Check, hold a Working with Children Check, and comply with Council and  Aged Care regulatory requirements (all checks are facilitated and free for volunteers).

Community Bus Drivers

About

Help connect people and keep the community moving.

We are looking for friendly, responsible volunteers to drive 12-seater community minibuses across the City of Casey. You will support a variety of programs, day trips, and outings that help older adults and other community members stay connected, active, and independent.
 

Why Volunteer for this program?

As a volunteer Community Bus Driver, you’ll play a key role in helping people stay socially connected and engaged. Your time behind the wheel helps residents attend programs, reduce isolation, and stay involved in community life. You’ll be a friendly face and a crucial part of their journey.

You will:

  • Support older and vulnerable residents to stay healthy and connected
  • Be part of a passionate, supportive volunteer team.

What we’re looking for

  • Safe, responsible drivers with good communication skills
  • Volunteers who enjoy meeting people and giving back
  • Individuals who can provide a welcoming and respectful experience for all passengers.

What You will do

  • Drive a Council 12-seater minibus for community programs and scheduled outings
  • Ensure safe, reliable transport for older adults and community groups
  • Greet and assist passengers with boarding and exiting the vehicle
  • Create a warm and welcoming environment during trips

Program details

Time Commitment

  • Programs run Monday to Friday between 8 am-4 pm
  • You can choose the days you volunteer

Volunteer Requirements

  • 25+ years of age and hold a current, valid full, unrestricted Victorian driver’s licence (no probationary plates)
     
  • Confidence driving a Council 12-seater minibus (no special licence required)-induction and training provided.
     
  • A calm, friendly manner and commitment to safety.
     
  • Committed to safety and respectful engagement with clients.
     
  • Willing to complete a National Police Check, hold a Working with Children Check or willing to obtain one, and comply with Council and  Aged Care regulatory requirements (all checks are facilitated and free for volunteers).

In Home Delivered Meals Service

About

Help us deliver more than just meals.

The City of Casey’s Delivered Meals Service supports older residents to live independently in their own homes. We are seeking compassionate volunteers to deliver meals and provide meaningful social connection to clients throughout Casey.

As a volunteer, you will help promote wellbeing, provide informal client monitoring, and make a real difference in the lives of older community members.
 

Why Volunteer for this program?

Volunteering in this program is a chance to make a real difference—supporting older residents to maintain their independence, dignity, and continue living safely in their own homes.

This service provides a fantastic opportunity for students aged 16+ as well as people with special needs to volunteer with a parent, teacher or support person. 

You will:

  • Make a meaningful difference in someone’s life
  • Support older residents to stay healthy and connected
  • Be part of a passionate, supportive volunteer team
  • Gain valuable volunteer experience and work as part of a team.

What we’re looking for

  • Volunteers who are compassionate, friendly, and respectful.
  • Comfortable engaging with people from a range of backgrounds.
  • Reliable and organised, with good communication skills.
  • Able to commit to regular morning shifts on Mondays and/or Thursdays.
     

What will you do

Collect prepacked frozen meals from the Narre Warren Meals Centre (192 Centre Road, Narre Warren) and deliver them to eligible Commonwealth Home Support Program residents in Casey who are on your designated route. 

Provide informal wellbeing monitoring and report any concerns about a client’s wellbeing to the Meals Service Team.

You will get the chance to interact with clients from a variety of cultural backgrounds and with diverse access needs.
 

  • Program details

    Time Commitment
  • Delivery shifts take place Mondays and Thursdays, between 8:30 am and 12:30 pm
  • Shift lengths vary depending on the size of your delivery round.
  • Monthly rosters are posted at the Meals Centre and based on your availability.

Travel locations

  • Deliveries take place within the City of Casey, on your assigned route.

Volunteer requirements

  • If you are 16 years old and would like to volunteer but do not drive, you must have a carer/support person aged over 18 who holds a valid driver’s licence who can volunteer with you. They will also need to complete the volunteer registration.
     
  • 18+ years old with a valid driver’s licence
     
  • Own a registered, roadworthy vehicle with comprehensive insurance
     
  • Reliable, communicative, and have a calm, friendly manner.
     
  • Committed to safety and respectful engagement with clients.
     
  • Willing to complete a National Police Check, hold a Working with Children Check, and comply with Aged Care regulatory requirements (all checks are facilitated and free for volunteers).

The delivered Meals Service is supportive of people of all abilities to volunteer with a carer or support person. Talk to the Meal Services Coordinator to find out more.

What happens next

After we receive your Expression of Interest:

  1. A team member will contact you to discuss your interest and next steps
  2. If suitable, you’ll attend an interview and orientation session
  3. You will be asked to complete background checks (Police Check, Working with Children Check, and references)
  4. A statutory declaration may be required
  5. We ask for a minimum commitment of 6 months, with a check-in at 3 months to see how you’re going.
