Emergencies can happen at any time, so it’s important to be prepared to ensure the safety of yourself, those around you, and your property. There are simple steps you can take to prepare which can make you feel more confident and in control. For more information on what actions you can take, visit Emergency Prepare.
You should have at least 2 ways to access information and warnings during an emergency. The recommended sources are to:
- download the VicEmergency App
- call the VicEmergency Hotline on 1800 226 226
- tune into your local ABC news radio, visit www.emv.vic.gov.au
- follow VicEmergency on Facebook and Twitter.
Accessing translations
If you or a family member speak another language and require access to emergency services information, you can find it by clicking through to the above links and changing the language content on the website by looking in the either the top left or right hand corner, and filtering the drop down options to choose the language you prefer.
Download the VicEmergency App
The VicEmergency app is an emergency management tool developed by the Victorian Government to help people stay informed during times of emergency. The app provides real-time information and warnings about emergencies such as bushfires, floods, storms, and other natural disasters. You can download the app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) on your mobile device, or alternatively visit emergency.vic.gov.au.

Preparing an emergency plan for your household can help you enhance the safety of yourself, your loved ones and your property during a crisis. Once you have created your plan, make sure you review and practice it regularly with your family. This will allow you to feel prepared, identify any gaps and build confidence if a disaster strikes.
