School crossing safety

School crossings are located at some intersections, pedestrian light crossings and flagged children's crossings in Casey.

You can help ensure the safety of pedestrians and school crossing supervisors in several ways.

Pedestrians

  • Always stand behind the yellow/white line.
  • Wait behind the yellow/white line until the supervisor has blown their whistle twice.
  • Do not ride bikes across the crossing, bounce balls or run. Walk quickly and safely.
  • Always cross at the crossing when it is in operation.
  • Follow the directions of the supervisor.

Motorists

  • Ensure you don't park your vehicle within the 'No Stopping' signs to allow visibility for both vehicles on the road and the crossing supervisor.
  • Slow down to 40km/h or less in designated school zones
  • Obey parking restrictions
  • Be alert for the operation of the school crossing.

Learn about our Safe Around School Program for more information about travelling safely in and around schools.

Hours of operation

School crossing supervisors work Monday to Friday during the school term, usually between the hours of:

  • 8 am - 9.30 am
  • 2.30 pm - 4 pm

Each school crossing in Casey has different operation times within the above periods before and after school. A school crossing supervisor may not be available for the crossing operation hours, depending on the particular school times and demand for the service.
