The City of Casey has a rich heritage dating back tens of thousands of years and a wealth of native fauna and flora. Casey’s heritage places include a range of historic buildings, natural heritage, geoheritage and archaeological artefacts. Each place and artefact tells the story of Casey’s past and its conservation enriches our present and future.
Over 180 places in Casey are controlled under heritage legislation (Casey’s Heritage Overlay). Of these, three are precincts and three are included in the State heritage register.
Despite development pressures faced as one of the fastest growing municipalities within Victoria, the City of Casey is committed to the conservation and enhancement of its heritage places as an investment in Casey’s character and appeal. The City of Casey respects its heritage places which provide a sense of continuity in times of change.

Heritage Framework
The Heritage Framework 2023-2027 comprises a review of the City of Casey Heritage Strategy 2017 and key initiatives for the management of heritage in Casey to 2027. It has been developed to ensure the continued protection and celebration of our heritage for the benefit of the community.
The Heritage Framework Implementation Plan Year 1 (the Plan) establishes the actions which directly respond to the heritage challenges and opportunities facing the City of Casey. The Plan sets out what the City of Casey plans to achieve during the coming 12 months.
View the Heritage Framework Implementation Plan
The Plan will be prepared annually and updated by an internal Heritage Framework Steering Committee (the Committee) to ensure the actions within the Plan are elevated as a priority.
Casey Heritage Handbook
The Heritage Handbook is a convenient and practical resource to assist owners of historic buildings to better understand the history and significant features of the property and how best to ensure its ongoing conservation and protection.
Heritage Restoration Fund
The Heritage Restoration Fund provides financial assistance to landowners for conservation works to places of identified historical significance within the City of Casey. There are a minimum of two funding rounds each financial year. Read more on the dedicated Casey Heritage Restoration Fund page or download the flyer.
