Kerbside bin changes

Lid standardisation is complete!

94% of Casey residential bins now have the new standard colours.

The new standardised lid colours are part of a statewide initiative to make recycling easier and reduce confusion. Previously, different areas used different colours, which often led to sorting errors.

Each lid now includes clear and simple hot stamps, so you can quickly identify what goes in each bin.

If your bin still has a blue or green lid, there is no need to worry. Your bins will still be collected as normal. These older lids will be phased out gradually, so you don’t need to contact us or take any action.

  • Less confusion: Consistent colours across Victoria make recycling easier
  • Better recycling outcomes: Clear labels help reduce contamination in recycling streams
  • Future-ready: Aligns with state guidelines for sustainable waste management

Thank you for your cooperation in making Casey a cleaner, greener community!

Frequently asked questions

What is the 4-bin waste service?

The Victorian Government is standardising household waste and recycling services across the state. It is a requirement that all bin lids are the same across the state. By 2030, all councils will use the same 4 bin system with standard bin lid colours statewide, including:

  • Food and garden bin (green lid)
  • General rubbish bin (red lid)
  • Co-mingled recycling bin (yellow lid)
  • Glass recycling bin (purple lid)
Is the bin contents changing?

No, what you can place in each of your bins will stay the same.

Read more information on what can and can't go into each bin.

Is glass still allowed in the recycling bin?

Yes, glass bottles and jars are still allowed in the recycling bin until the glass(purple lid) bin is introduced in 2026.

Once the glass bin is introduced, glass will no longer be accepted in the recycling bin and must be placed into the glass recycling bin.
