Celebrating 15 Years of L2P at the City of Casey

LP2

The City of Casey proudly celebrated the 15th anniversary of the L2P learner driver mentor program at Bunjil Place recently to mark this significant achievement and community partnership.

The program is a community-based program developed to assist eligible young learner drivers who do not have access to a supervising driver, gain the required 120 hours driving experience required for a probationary licence.

City of Casey Chair of Administrators Noelene Duff PSM said that since its establishment in 2009, the L2P program has been a vital resource for learner drivers aged 16 to 23, offering supervised driving and vehicles to those in need.

“Thanks to the partnership between City of Casey, the Department of Transport and Planning, and the Transport Accident Commission (TAC), numerous young individuals have gained essential driving experience, paving their way to obtaining a probationary licence,” Ms Duff said.

“We extend our appreciation to Berwick Motor Group for their sponsorship, who have kindly donated two new Kia cars, symbolising their ongoing commitment to supporting our community's youth.

“The dedication of our volunteer mentors has been instrumental in the program's success, positively impacting numerous individuals. We also celebrated the 10-year anniversary of two of our dedicated mentors and the achievement of 250 learners successfully obtaining their probationary licence through the program.”

Expressions of interest to become a volunteer mentor are now open. If you can commit 1 to 2 hours a week to help young learner drivers gain the experience they need to get a licence, consider becoming an L2P mentor.
