What happens if you break the Local Law

Council aims to keep Casey safe, respectful and well-maintained. Most issues are resolved by working with residents to fix problems early.

If someone breaches the Local Law, Council usually starts by issuing a Notice to Comply, which explains what needs to be done and gives a fair amount of time to do it.

If the issue isn’t resolved, further steps may include:

  • a fine (infringement notice)
  • cancelling a permit
  • legal action in serious cases.

Council always considers each situation carefully. Our officers aim to be fair, respectful and consistent, helping maintain community standards while giving people the chance to do the right thing.
