Volunteer Transport

City of Casey’s Volunteer Transport Service aims to assists residents aged 65 and over (50 and over for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) to remain independent and connected in their local community.

How does the service work?

Volunteer Transport provides up to two trips per month for eligible residents to attend medical appointments and where possible to visit their family members in nursing homes or hospitals.

The service employs dedicated volunteers who pick you up from your home, drive you to your appointment and then return you back to your home.  On certain circumstances we might use taxies and e-tickets to assist you to get to your appointments.

Appointments can be made Monday to Friday between 8.30am – 3.30pm. This excludes public holidays.

A carer or family member can accompany you in the volunteer’s vehicle to assist you during medical appointments if required.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the service, you must be able to:

  • Get in and out of volunteer’s vehicles unassisted.
  • Walk unassisted (with a mobility aid if required) the distance required to access vehicles and venues.

Please note, that our volunteers are unable to:

  • Push people in wheelchairs or on wheelie walkers.
  • Assist people with dependent mobility issues.
  • Lift wheelchairs in or out of their vehicles.
  • Be present during medical consultations.
