The City of Casey’s CRES process has six steps.
Central Registration and Enrolment Scheme
The Central Registration and Enrolment Scheme (CRES) is run by the City of Casey.
It is a single place where families can register their interest in sessional kindergarten.
The aim of CRES is to make sure kindergarten places are shared fairly and equally.
It follows the Department of Education’s Priority of Access and the City of Casey’s local rules.
CRES is built on six principles:
- simple
- inclusive
- adaptable
- consistent
- transparent
- collaborative
Kindergarten in Casey
Kindergarten is the start of your child’s learning journey. Programs are for children aged 3 and 4 years old and use play-based learning to help children:
- build curiosity
- be creative
- grow in confidence
Through fun activities, children develop skills in:
- communication
- problem-solving
- movement
- emotional wellbeing
Qualified teachers and educators create a safe and caring environment. Every child is encouraged to explore, learn and thrive.
All funded kindergarten programs use the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework. This makes sure the programs are right for each child’s age, needs and interests.
Benefits of Kindergarten
Research shows that play-based learning helps children grow and succeed. The benefits continue into school and later life. At kindergarten, children take part in many types of play:
- Physical play – builds confidence and movement skills
- Dramatic play – develops imagination, language and social skills
- Sensory play – exploring weight, volume and gravity helps early maths learning
- Nature and outdoor play – builds a connection with the world
- Creative play – encourages imagination and self-expression
- Social and emotional learning – children make friends, share, cooperate and build self-esteem
