Long or heavy vehicle parking permit

At the Council meeting held on 18 March 2025, City of Casey Councillors voted unanimously in favour of a full review of the Casey Community Local Law 2023 and to suspend permit and application fees for Private Land Use Permits until the review is completed.

Attention logoThe Road Safety Road Rules 2017 | Victorian Legislation defines long or heavy vehicles as those weighing over 4.5 tonnes or exceeding 7.5 metres.

Long or heavy vehicles parked on private property require a permit.

Vehicle types that may be deemed long or heavy include:

  • Caravans or RVs (recreational vehicles)
  • Motorhomes
  • Mobile homes
  • Trailers
  • Horse floats
  • Trucks
  • Buses

Note: In most cases, unhitched caravans and trailers will never exceed the dimensions or weight required to be deemed long or heavy.

Apply for a permit

  • Once off application, the fee is $150 (non-refundable)
  • The yearly long or heavy vehicle permit fee is $473 (for one vehicle on private land only)

You must pay both the application and permit fee when you apply. We will refund the permit fee of $473 if your application is unsuccessful.

Contact us if you intend to park more than one long/heavy vehicle on private land.

What happens next

  • We will inform your neighbours that you wish to keep a large vehicle in a residential area.
  • We will inspect the area where you plan to keep your vehicle.
  • We will refund the permit fee of $473 if your application is unsuccessful.
  • You must renew your permit fee of $473 every year.
