Barking dog complaints

Section 32 of the Domestic Animals Act 1994 stipulates that the occupier of any premises where a dog is kept must not allow the animal to be a nuisance. A dog is considered a nuisance if it creates noise, such as persistent barking, to a degree that unreasonably interferes with the peace, comfort, or convenience of any person in another premises.

Report a barking dog

Before reporting a barking dog to us

  • Try talking to the dog owner. They may not be aware that the barking is annoying others.
  • You must know the exact address of the barking dog. We will need it before we can take any action.

Once we receive your complaint

  • An Animal Management Officer will notify the dog owner within 10 business days and work with them to reduce the barking.
  • We will send you a 14-day dog diary to document excessive barking. The completed diary will be needed to support any enforcement action taken if barking continues. It must be returned to us within 28 days of us issuing it to you.

Note: We will never share your details with the dog owner. We only collect your details in the form below to give you updates or if we need to request more information.
