Doveton Pool in the Park revitalisation plans progress swimmingly

Plans to revitalise Doveton Pool in the Park made a splash at a recent Council meeting where it was recommended that the project proceed if funding support can be provided by the State and Federal Governments.

The Doveton Pool in the Park Outdoor Pool and Year-Round Accessible Park project proposal, estimated to cost $21.14 million, is expected to breathe new life into the site and offer a variety of recreational opportunities for the community throughout the year.

Council recommended that the project proceed to the next step and a draft Master Plan be developed for community exhibition. However, Council acknowledged that it would not be able to deliver the project without a funding commitment of at least 50 per cent from the State and Federal Governments.

Contributions from more than 500 community members, alongside a range of background assessments, have suggested that the site could include features such as:

  • Pool plaza
  • Sand pit beach
  • Water play
  • Adventure play
  • Shelter for picnic and BBQ area
  • Refurbished main building

These elements will be further explored with the community during the exhibition of the Draft Master Plan later this year.

City of Casey Chair of Administrators Noelene Duff PSM is delighted to reach this milestone which is the product of so many voices from the local community.

‘We would like to thank the community for their extraordinary input into this process to date. The contributions of more than 500 community members  have enabled us to plan for the site knowing what the community needs – both now and into the future.

‘It is our hope that this project  will revitalise the site and maximise our community’s opportunities for recreation close to home. I can see the site becoming a favoured location for many gatherings between friends and family members – no matter the time of year,’ said Ms Duff.

“While Council has made a commitment to the development of a Master Plan, we will only be able to deliver the project if the Victorian Government or Australian Government is able to contribute at least 50 per cent of the project’s costs.

Ms Duff added, “Council has listened to its community and made a commitment and now we strongly seek the support from the higher levels of government to enable this project to be constructed.

“We look forward to working with our Government partners to bring a much-loved community asset back to life.”
