The Disability and Inclusion Action Plan 2025-2029 (DIAP) was unanimously endorsed at the April 2025 Council meeting. The DIAP promotes accessibility, equality, and inclusion for people with disability, their families, and carers in the City of Casey.
The DIAP is designed to ensure that people with disability in the City of Casey can participate fully and equally in community life and outlines Council’s strategic commitment to disability inclusion, setting out a clear roadmap to embed inclusive practices across all aspects of Council’s operations, including services, facilities, information, employment, and community engagement.
City of Casey mayor Stefan Koomen endorsed the Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2025-2029, stating, “This plan reaffirms our commitment to creating a more inclusive and accessible community where people with disability can fully participate in all aspects of life. Over the next four years, this plan will guide our efforts to remove barriers, increase awareness, and embed accessibility and inclusion into everything we do—from our policies and programs to our services and facilities. We recognise the importance of leading by example and ensuring that people with disability have a strong voice in shaping our city.”
The DIAP includes 74 actions designed to reflect the Council’s role in community leadership and service delivery and the aspirations of residents in Casey living with a disability.
The plan's benefits include more inclusive and accessible Council services, programs, and facilities, Improved access to information and communication, greater employment and economic opportunities for people with disabilities, and stronger representation and participation in decision-making.
These benefits will be realised progressively over the plan's life. Actions will be implemented in Year One, while other actions, requiring further scoping or partnerships, will be delivered over the four-year period.
