Renaming of a lake in Berwick Springs to Guru Nanak Lake

Thumbnail

A lake in Berwick Springs was recently renamed Guru Nanak Lake by the State Government, in honour of the first Guru and founder of the Sikh faith. The renaming applies only to the lake and not the wider estate or area.

Council is aware of conversations that took place between the Victorian Government, Melbourne Water, and Geographic Names Victoria; however, Council was not involved in the naming of the lake or have any authority on the naming of the lake.

The naming of Guru Nanak Lake delivers on a 2018 election commitment made by the former Premier of Victoria to name a permanent landmark in Victoria in honour of Guru Nanak.

If the community wish to discuss this further they should contact the Victorian Government via https://www.vic.gov.au/contact-us or call 1300 366 356.
