A community-led review of the Casey Community Local Law is now underway, with Councillors endorsing a community engagement plan to ensure residents across the city can have their say on what the new law should look like.
At the April Council Meeting, Councillors gave the green light to a six-week community engagement program, and a review process that works towards a new and improved local law coming into effect in 2026.
From Monday 21 April to Sunday 1 June 2025, all community members will have the opportunity to help shape the new law through a comprehensive and genuine community engagement program – via an online survey or one of 12 pop-ups being held right across Casey.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Stefan Koomen encouraged everyone in the community to get involved.
“We’ll be out in the community, listening to residents to ensure their voices are at the heart of the new local law,” Cr Koomen said.
“Twelve pop-up sessions will be held across every ward of the City of Casey, alongside an online survey that invites people to share their views on what a fair and reasonable local law looks like.”
“We’ve heard the concerns of our community, and we’re now taking action to create a local law that truly reflects their needs and expectations. We’ve also heard from community members who have relied on the local law to assist in navigating challenging situations related to their home, street or neighbourhood,” said Cr Koomen.
“It’s important we get the balance right, and that starts with listening to our community,” Cr Koomen said.
