The Victorian Government has announced the Croskell (Employment) Precinct Structure Plan (PSP) has been approved, unlocking approximately 317 hectares of land near Cranbourne for development.
Bounded by Thompsons Road to the north, Berwick-Cranbourne Road to the east and Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road to the west, the precinct expects to see over 6,800 local jobs, and 600 new homes in Casey.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Stefan Koomen said the Victorian Planning Authority (VPA) had led the delivery of this Plan, in partnership with the City of Casey and other state agencies.
“The Croskell Precinct has been identified as a regionally significant employment area, and the PSP guides the future development of the area," he said.
“This Plan will see increased local job opportunities and reduce the need for long commutes to get to work. With 600 new homes planned, it will also contribute to housing demand and access to affordable options.
“Although Council was not the lead agency for this work, we have actively collaborated with the Victorian Government to ensure our key priorities have been included in the PSP.
“We’ve ensured local voices are considered when it comes to planning this new community, including new intersections on Thompsons Road and extending Casey Fields Boulevard north to connect with Thompsons Road to relieve traffic congestion.
“We are also calling for a firm commitment this Election year on the upgrade and extension of Thompsons Road from Berwick-Cranbourne Road right through to Koo-Wee-Rup Road, this would see over 140,000 jobs unlocked.
“This would also ensure the precinct is centrally located within the broader Thompsons Road business corridor, including the Dandenong National Employment and Innovation Cluster to the west, and the future Officer South State Significant Industrial Precinct to the east.
“We have worked to ensure telecommunications infrastructure is considered at this early planning stage, in a similar way to other utilities such as water and electricity, and it’s great to see this referenced in the PSP.
“This is part of our ramped up efforts to bring better mobile phone coverage right across our growing suburbs.”
The Croskell (Employment) Precinct Structure Plan also identifies:
• One sports reserve.
• Five local parks.
• Approximately 15 hectares of open space.
• New walking and bike tracks.
• Upgraded arterial roads and intersections, including the extension of Casey Fields Boulevard from Linsell Boulevard to Thompsons Road.
• New drainage reserves by Melbourne Water.
• Infrastructure Contributions Plan that details how developers will fund critical infrastructure.
With the State Government approving the PSP, it now becomes part of the Casey Planning Scheme. Council officers will now be able to assess planning permit applications, manage developer contributions, and work with state agencies to see the PSP implemented over the coming years.
