Visible Mending Workshop

Session covers mending woollen, stretchy, woven clothing, plus sashiko, embroidery, and weaving mends.

Fast fashion is cheap to buy, but has high costs environmentally and socially.

Value the clothing you already have, by learning to mend it. Visible mending (rather than trying to make your clothes look like there was no mend, or just throwing them away) is a statement to others to say that you care enough about your clothes to mend them, rather than dispose of them. Mending your own clothing and keeping them in circulation means there is less pressure on resources for new clothing, and is a signal to others that maybe they could do the same.

This session will look at mending woollen clothing, stretchy clothing, and woven clothing (jeans are ideal). We will also look at things like sashiko, embroidery and weaving mends.

Bring along your moth-chomped or ripped items, and use visible mending techniques to give your damaged items new life.

Light refreshments provided.
